Hi there! Welcome to the kick off of my “Holiday Your Home” series! Over the course of the next six weeks, I will be sharing my holiday inspirations every Friday! I’m talking homemade gifts, home decor, and holiday traditions galore! You don’t want to miss any of these idea-packed posts. Make sure you sign up for my e-mail list at the end of this post, so you don’t miss a single post in the series!
First things first! This week’s post is all about handmade gifts! Here are a few fun projects perfect for everyone on your list. Show your loved ones you care with the handmade touch! Many of these projects are perfect for beginners, so don’t worry if you’re just starting out.
Gifts For New Parents
It can be difficult to buy things for new parents that aren’t related to the baby. Ultimately, you might want to consider a good balance between things that will help them relax and/or make their lives easier and some cutesy things for their babies. So, my inspirations (as my sister and brother-in-law just had their first child) are just that.
The Baby Gifts
Seriously, I love these cute little sock monkeys (with tutorial) by Craft Passion. It’s an easy sewing project for a beginner and they are beyond adorable!
Stuffed animal not your thing? Consider making a DIY Mobile. This one has a rustic, camping theme. The best thing about this tutorial is that you can adjust what you make for the mobile to a theme you love! The basics are still the same!
The Parent Gifts
New parents have a hard time finding time to spend together, so the perfect gift for them is a DIY Date Night Kit! It’s perfect for new parents because they can have a date night in without sacrificing too much time with their new baby, and super easy to put together. But, if that’s not your thing, be sure to try out this easy crochet tutorial for a mug cozy. It’s hard juggling a cup of coffee between changing diapers, so help them keep theirs warm!
Holiday Gifts For Tea Enthusiasts
My mom loves her tea time, and she wanted a tea cozy this year. While I’m not sharing the one I made (I’ll share a tutorial after the holidays, I promise!), there are a bunch of tutorials and patterns out there. In fact, here are 25 Awesome Patterns to consider! If you know their tastes in tea and have a knack for blending flavors, you can also make your own tea blend! At the very least, it’s sure to be a gift they’ve never gotten before! If that’s a bit too far outside of your comfort zone, a good Tea Tree goes a long way. 🙂
Who doesn’t love a good adventure? Adventurers with wanderlust don’t often want or need much, but there are some great DIY gifts that will be super useful on their travels. I love this article from BuzzFeed for some awesome DIYs. My personal favorites from this curated collection are these map coasters and the DIY terry cloth toothpaste pouch– perfect for the travel-obsessed. There is also this really neat adventure kit for kids to inspire their inner explorer early!
I know it’s super difficult to impress a true techie with a DIY gift, but there are some creative projects out there. I love this DIY Holder for your cell phone while it charges. It’s super easy to customize it to the style/needs of the person you’re giving it to. This Tablet Stand is also super easy to put together and a great way to declutter your counter. There are TONS of DIY phone cases out there, too. I just searched on Pinterest and found too many cute ones to share them all!
This DIY Finals survival kit will make any student grateful you’re on their side and get them through some of the most stressful weeks of their lives. There are tons more tutorials out there for study boxes and survival kits, too. You could also go the secretive route and make this awesome Book safe. It’s great for someone who has roommates to stow away their valuables in a secret place.
Whoever your shopping for, there are plenty of DIY ideas. This just scratches the surface of ideas you can create for your loved ones. Plus, there’s nothing wrong with buying local if you don’t have time to DIY! Shop etsy and check out local boutiques for some cool finds. Don’t forget to show local businesses some love by going on Small Business Saturday!
